It is known that  Nigeria has big ambitions in climate change and sustainable development goals implementation. But stakeholders will need to know the extent to which the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) are being implemented en route 2030 targets. It also seeks to understands Nigeria’s strength in negotiation strength at COP 24?

The Center for Agriculture is partnered by the United Nations Information Center to host pre-conference of parties dialogue (Pre-COP) on November 14, 2018 in Lagos.

The theme of the dialogue is: SDG Score Cards of Nations: From Nigeria to the World at COP24. We request you to join a Panel of Three to discuss Nigeria’s NDCs Performance, and the future of climate finance and Carbon Markets in Nigeria.

The overarching objective of the Pre-COP is to increase awareness of Nigeria’s implementation of the NDCs in lieu of the Paris Agreement, and other SDGs attainment milestones. It is meant to prepare policy and other stakeholders on Nigeria’s status in respect of COP negotiations and knowledge of SDG targets attainment. It will also interrogate some critical questions regarding Nigeria’s implementation of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

I t will also seek to assess how the private sector and subnational governmental entities has been plugging into the low-carbon economic pathway and how block chain technology could be leveraged to chart a future for Climate finance, Carbon Markets, Carbon Farming as well as agro-ecological and forest governance in Nigeria.

The thematic areas include:

1.    Nigeria’s NDC Implementation

2.    Blockchain technology, Climate Finance and Carbon Markets

3.    Carbon Farming and sustainable food security
