The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in its new climate predictions has indicated that the annual mean global temperature is likely to be at least 1° Celsius above pre-industrial levels (1850-1900) in each of the coming five years (2020-2024). The predictions it just issued adds also that there is a 20% chance temperatures will exceed 1.5°C in at least one year.
The predictions take into account natural weather variability as well as human influences on climate. They provide the best possible forecasts of temperature, rainfall, wind patterns and other variables for the next five years. The forecast models do not, however, take into consideration changes in emissions of greenhouse gases and aerosols that may result fras a result of the coronavirus lockdown.
