The University of Agriculture Makurdi Nigeria is focusing on varietal improvement of various crops that are critical to smallholder adaptation capacity. The Cowpea breeding programme happening at the Seeds Center increases the cowpea varietal or genetic reinforcement as well as consumption feel that increases the market acceptability and productivity characteristics such as N-fixing nodular capacity. These are meant to address the adaptation needs of smallholder producers of cowpea in the middle belt agricultural zone of Nigeria.
