The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development hosted a workshop under its 2022 National Agricultural Extension Development and Coordination Committee hosted in partnership with National Forum of Agricultural Development Programme (ADP) Managers and Nassarawara State Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, for the ADP Managers. The theme of the workshop was “Strengthening ADPs for Agricultural Extension delivery at the grassroots in Nigeria’ held at the Akwe Doma Banquet Hall, Government House, Lafia, Nassarawa State. It had the Honourable Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Mahmood Abubakar as the Special Guest.
It was a forum for exploring the challenges faced by ADPs as institutions empowered for extension delivery in Nigeria. The forum had conversations and made recommendations to the Federal and state Governments. Some of the recommendations included the enactment of the National Policy on Extension by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the need to lighten the programme load of the ADPs by supporting them to build capacity for coordination, monitoring, supervision, evaluation and regulation of extension services in order to enable them begin to expand the extension delivery space for the private sector to operate, as well unlocking and deploying various sources of funds within the domestic financing space. @caccng.
